At Engineering Leaders this post Post | Feed | LinkedIn)is music to our ears. As engineers, we typically focus on the rational elements we are most comfortable with – solving problems associated with electrons, levers, computers and machines. We tend to be less comfortable when dealing with the unpredictability and complexity that inherently is a part of working with humans.
Soft skills are problematic because they are hard! Or more correctly, less familiar or less comfortable to deal with. Those who step into discomfort and embrace the human or emotional skills, alongside the rational, will ultimately lead teams to better results.
Along with energyARK, whom we work with to augment your technical challenges (including DC converter stations pictured here…), Timothy Miles and I are passionate about creating more complete technical professionals by adding the emotional intelligence that can bridge the leadership gap.
