Sun is an analytical and specialised HVDC engineer, with over ten years of experience supporting Transmission System Operators and EPCs in delivering both Line Commutated Converter (LCC) and Voltage Source Converter (VSC) HVDC projects across the UK, Europe, and South Korea. She brings deep technical expertise in converter valve systems, with experience in design, evaluation, testing, compliance assessment, and interface coordination. Her knowledge spans the full lifecycle of HVDC assets – from design and testing to site-based verification and asset management support.

Key Areas of Expertise:

  • Review of technical specification, design documentation, interface coordination and documentation verification for HVDC owners
  • Design review of primary equipment within the converter station
  • Interpreter of FAT and Type test specifications, outcomes, on-site review and compliance evaluations
  • Technical advisory of interface management across OEMs, TSOs, and contractors, in addition to deliverable tracking, review scheduling and resource and task planning

Sun believes leadership is not only about direction, but presence — holding clarity in uncertainty and building trust in complex environments. While engineering often focuses on deliverables, she is equally committed to team culture, fostering collaboration, communication, and psychological safety.

She advocates for more adaptable, cross-disciplinary engineers and encourages organisations to evolve beyond rigid processes — embracing agility and curiosity to meet the complexity of today’s energy transition.
