Phil Devine

With over thirty-five years of experience in design, testing and commissioning for HVDC and FACTS, Phil has been a Technical Lead on all matters related to HVDC Systems, from feasibility studies to commissioning and Maintenance. Phil’s experience includes involvement with HVDC projects across the globe, leading teams in testing, designing and commissioning of systems in the UK, Europe, Canada , Brazil and South Korea to name but a few, including the UK’s first multi-terminal HVDC link.

Phil has a wealth of experience in both the technicalities of control system installation, design and operation, as well as in team leadership, fault investigation and repair, and project management. This is combined with a detailed knowledge of the manufacturing, installation and commissioning procedures and processes of most major HVDC suppliers.

Phil’s proudest achievements during his career have been around the development and mentorship of young Engineers and early career professionals. Phil believes strongly that in order to safeguard the delivery of a sustainable future, we need to ensure that we are preparing the next generation of Engineers to equip them for the challenges that lie ahead, so they in turn can ‘pay back’ the knowledge shared along the way, and strive to make a difference. Phil counts himself as very lucky to have been involved in engineering over such a time of growth and technical innovation and looks forward to that involvement continuing into the future.
